Staff Accountant/Auditor (Level 1) Summary As a staff accountant you will support the firm’s mission by accurately and efficiently preparing client financial statements and documents, identifying potential client tax-related issues and communicating recommendations to senior staff or partners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities § Prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, s-corporations and payroll taxes. § Analyze and reconcile accounts, develop support schedules and make journal entries as needed § Participate in client audits and preparation of financial statements § Data entry, work paper preparation, scanning, copying, etc. § Prepare correspondence to IRS and State Tax Administrators regarding tax compliance issues § Attend firm-sponsored events, meetings and functions. § Participate in goal setting and planning activities; monitor and track results § Comply with and support Baratz and Associates policies and procedures, core values and Mission Statement § Other duties as directed by senior staff and the managing partners
Skills and Competencies § Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles. § Knowledge of basic arithmetic/algebra. Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations § Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Strong knowledge of formulas in Excel § Ability to work both independently and as part of a team § Organized and detail oriented. Able to work with a variety of duties and changing priorities § Learn firm procedures and systems (manual and IT) § Good analytical skills § Good organization skills § Strong sense of urgency without compromising quality § Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing issues and recommendations to other team members. § Commitment to continuous learning
Education, Certifications and/or Experience § Bachelors degree in Accounting § Previous accounting and/or internship experience helpful § Pursuing CPA certification § Complete 40 hours continuing education annually
